The Hundred Patrons – I Cento Mecenati
A joint initiative in support of culture
I Cento Mecenati project was created to bring together a community of citizens who choose to actively support the Sferisterio in Macerata and the Macerata Opera Festival, sharing its values, vision and cultural responsibility.
This is not a one-off initiative, but a project that has become established over the years, confirming the desire of many people to contribute directly to the cultural life of the Festival. It is a gesture that fits perfectly into the history of the Sferisterio itself, which was created by the Cento Consorti as a space “to adorn the city and delight the public”.
The Cento Mecenati are citizens who, through an annual donation of €1,000, support the activities of the Macerata Opera Festival through the charitable donations provided for by the Art Bonus, benefiting from the associated tax breaks. Thanks to this measure, Italian citizens can recover 65% of the amount donated in the form of tax credits over the following three years.
Becoming part of the Cento Mecenati means participating in a collective effort to promote culture, contributing to the continuity and development of one of the symbols of the city’s cultural life. It is concrete, accessible and transparent support that strengthens the bond between the Festival and its community.
Over time, I Cento Mecenati project has received important national recognition, including a special mention in the 2016 Cultura + Impresa Award in the Art Bonus category. This result testifies to the value of the model and the strength of shared participation.
Some of the patrons involved have also received cultural awards, confirming a commitment that goes beyond financial support and translates into a genuine responsibility towards cultural heritage.

What is the Art Bonus?
The Art Bonus is a measure promoted by the government
to encourage cultural patronage, which allows Italian citizens who make
donations to support culture to benefit from a tax credit equal to 65%
of the amount donated.
