Nabucco

(Nabucodonosor) – Lyric drama in four parts by Temistocle Solera. First performance: Milan, Teatro alla Scala, 9 March 1842. Musical editions: E. F. Kalmus & Co., New York
A dark tragedy of domination and family drama, it recounts the enslavement of the Jewish people in Babylon, but also the conflict between Nabucco’s daughters Abigaille and Fenena, as well as the king’s conversion to the God of Israel, thanks to which he finally frees the oppressed people.
With the new production by Belgian director Paul-Émile Fourny and conducted by Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Anastasia Bartoli, one of today’s most sought-after dramatic voices, will make her debut on the stage of the Sferisterio in the difficult role of Abigaille. Alongside her, also appearing for the first time at the Macerata Opera Festival, is this year’s young baritone revelation Ariun Ganbataar, then Laura Verrecchia as Fenena, Alessandro Scotto di Luzio and bass Alberto Comes in the role of Zaccaria for the first time.
