Il barbiere di Siviglia
di Gioachino Rossini

Comic drama in two acts with libretto by Cesare Sterbini based on the play of the same name by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais – First performance: Rome, Teatro Argentina, 20 February 1816 – Musical edition: E. F. Kalmus & Co., New York
One of the most beloved and popular works in the opera repertoire, Il Barbiere di Siviglia returns to the Sferisterio in Macerata in the acclaimed production by Daniele Menghini.
The story revolves around the irresistible figure of Figaro, a barber and skilled schemer, who helps Count Almaviva win the heart of the young Rosina, rescuing her from the clutches of the jealous Don Bartolo, who is more interested in her dowry than in love.
A brilliant comedy, full of disguises, deceit and twists and turns, which leads to a happy ending that is only apparently light-hearted.
In this production, the action takes place inside a film studio, where entertainment formats ranging from soap operas to reality shows come to life.
A lively and colourful setting which, through playfulness and excess, also highlights the more ambiguous and dark sides of Rossini’s characters, offering a surprisingly contemporary interpretation of the opera.
The revival of the show is directed by Gianluca Martinenghi, with a high-calibre vocal cast led by the young talent Grisha Martirosyan. Alongside him are the returning Ruzil Gatin, Raffaella Lupinacci in the role of Rosina and Marco Filippo Romano as Don Bartolo, now considered one of the greatest interpreters of the role.
