Seristerio Scuola
Sferisterio Scuola is an educational project through which the Macerata Opera Festival opens the doors of the Sferisterio to the school community, accompanying children, young people, teachers and families on a journey of discovery of opera and music as a shared experience.
During the school year, teachers and students participate in a structured educational programme that prepares them for viewing the performances and allows the young people to experience them in an active and informed way. This programme demonstrates how music and opera, when presented using appropriate language and tools, can engage all ages and contribute to people’s cultural, emotional and relational growth.
Through educational activities, workshops and preparatory meetings, Sferisterio Scuola promotes music education and introduces opera to new generations.
The two programmes offered by Sferisterio Scuola, dedicated respectively to nursery schools and primary and lower secondary schools, are designed to introduce children and young people to opera through tools and languages appropriate to their different ages.
Since 2019, activities aimed at children have involved 6,368 students, together with 1,028 educators and 5,485 family members, confirming the value of theatre as a space for shared discovery.
Alongside this, the Opera Domani project, dedicated to young people up to the age of 14, has involved 17,788 students, 2,544 educators and 17,696 family members since 2018.
From 2021, the final performance of Opera Domani will take place at the Sferisterio, offering young people the chance to experience the excitement of the Macerata Opera Festival in the same venue as the main evenings.
In a place like Macerata, where the Sferisterio is the hub of the city’s cultural life, these initiatives strengthen the bond between the Festival, the local community and the audience of tomorrow.
Sferisterio Scuola is organised by the Associazione Arena Sferisterio in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Education of the Municipality of Macerata.
