Il Trovatore (1853), with libretto by Cammarano, was last performed at the Sferisterio in 2016. It belongs to Verdi’s so-called “popular trilogy” and is the quintessence of operatic Romanticism; its plot is a mix of love, mystery, and darkness and it unfolds to a score that spans from the introspection of the cavatina “Tacea La Notte Placida” to the frenzy of the cabaletta “Di Quella Pira L’Orrendo Foco”.
